In some hill-regions, this has led to a serious decline in farm output and a change in the local diet, because there is insufficient labour to maintain terraces and irrigation systems and tend to crops.<br />

My question is what's the grammar function of "tend to crops". Is there anything wrong with this sentence?

I cannot see any grammatical error here. “Tend to crops”, meaning "take care of crops". Before tend, there is the omission of "to", which is allowed in this case.

I didn't know tend has such a meaning of "take care of". Thank you so much!
