Nowadays we are producing more and more rubbish.
Why do you think this is happening?
What can governments do to help reduce the amount of rubbish produced?

At present we are living in a throw-away society which produces a huge amount of waste on a daily basis. I believe the issue is a result of consumer culture and governments could take steps to tackle it. (38)
There are three main reasons why plenty of rubbish is created daily. Firstly, the improvement of productivity, as well as technological innovation has reduced the cost of production substantially. As a result, products, including packaged foods and household appliances, could be increasingly affordable. The more products are sold to consumers, the more rubbish could be thrown away. Besides, commodities are not made to be durable and updated frequently. People get used to buying a new one to replace the broken one. At the same time, advertisers encourage consumers to purchase the newest fashions. Finally, most products are sold in non-biodegradable plastic packaging, which is a difficult problem for waste disposal. (110)
On the other hand, governments could take the initiative to mitigate pollution. It could be the most important to raise citizens’ environmental awareness, as it changes the way in which people use and dispose products. People should be encouraged to keep old products, as long as these products function appropriately. Moreover, some environmental laws should be enforced strictly. For example, manufacturers produce packaging goods which cannot be broke down easily, they should be punished with high fines or even be forced to shut down. In addition, some green industries or researches should be supported by governments so as to restore the environment.(102)
To conclude, more and more rubbish due to overconsumption of products has posed a serious threat to our planet, governments should take measure to fix this issue as soon as possible.(31)
