There is an increase in anti-social behavior and lack of respect for others. What are the causes? Who should be responsible for dealing with it?
It is noteworthy that nowadays people’s lives have been improving in terms of material wealth while the moral standards they keep to have been deteriorating. This gives rise to more disturbing behavior and even violent crimes. In this essay, I will explore the causes and try to give out the solutions to the problem.
First of all, modern lifestyle must be mainly responsible for this social problem. Take car use for example, more road rages occur in the streets of major cities due to the unpleasant surroundings, like heavy congestion or terrible pollution. What is even worse, a large proportion of serious road accidents result from reckless driving. If motorists showed more respect for life, the situation would be much better. In addition, widespread use of electronic devices brings about enormous convenience to life and considerable nuisance as well. For instance, talking loudly on the mobile phone in public places like in the lifts or at the restaurants, neglecting the presence of others, is another telling example of lack of respect for others. Last but not the least, without doubt, too much inappropriate content like violence and pornography on the Internet triggers more violent crimes, especially juvenile delinquency.
To work out the social problem, the government and individuals must make concerted effort and shoulder the responsibility. Only by enacting and enforcing effective laws, can the government see antisocial behavior is restricted. Meanwhile, as fine or punishment cannot completely terminate crimes, the more effective measures lie in education, which encourage people to follow the social rules and abide the laws. As a result, more responsible citizens will serve the society and the world will become a better place to live in.
To sum up, in spite of the fact that behavior that is harmful to society is increasing, we still have confidence in eradicating it once we are aware of the root cause and invent effective measures.
