The thirty-eighth essay
In todays world, it is private companies rather than government who pay for and carry out most on scientific research. Do you think the advantages outweigh the disadvantages?
Answer
Currently, as increasing private enterprises sponsor and carry out on most scientific research, that brings many of advantages as well as disadvantages. Personally, I think the advantages that brought outweigh the disadvantages.
Undoubtedly, people have benefited greatly from some technologies enterprises invested in and researched. As a matter of fact, people might live uncomfortably and inconveniently without those technologies such as telecommunication and means of transportation. These rapidly developing technologies not only contribute high profits to the enterprises who have allocated money to and carried out these scientific objects but also make people's lives less time-consuming and more efficient. In particular medical research results, numerous incurable patients before have been cured or improved by up-to-date diagnostic and therapeutic method.
However, the technical monopoly of enterprises' scientific research might cause some problems. Because the scientific research is sponsored and conducted by enterprises, so they have rights to preserve their research results. As a consequence, their products own inherent advantages to monopolise and dominate the market. For instance, Microsoft had monopolised the computer os-system by their product: Windows for a long years. Even some countries' governments use the Windows to handle their daily business. Every thing is not perfect actually. If the leaks of the system is utilised by some people who hold grudge against societies, the consequences might be catastrophic.
Summarily, In my opinion, even though scientific research sponsored and conducted by companies could cause monopolies but the benefits from that to people are great. Thus, I believe its advantages outweigh disadvantages.
