The table below shows the percentage of Australian households with access to computers or internet from 1998 to 2000.
Summarize the information by choosing and identifying the main features and make comparisons where relevant.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
| | access to computer | access to internet |
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
| Household income/year | 1998 | 1999 | 2000 | 1998 | 1999 | 2000 |
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
| Below $50,000 per year | 34 | 33 | 37 | 10 | 12 | 21 |
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
| Above $50,000 per year| 69 | 71 | 77 | 34 | 43 | 57 |
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The data indicates how the ratio of Australian families who had access to computer and internet changed from 1998 to 2000. A comparison was made between households with lower income (below $50,000 per year) and those with higher income (above $50,000 each year).
It is manifestly clear from the data that throughout the given period, more Australian households could use personal computer and the internet, regardless of the level of their income. In 1998, only 34% of impoverished families and 69% of affluent ones could access to the computer, which witnessed a 3% and 8% increase respectively two years later. Similarly, such a rise happened to the access to internet, but more significantly, with 100% and 50% increase recorded.
Interestingly, between the years 1998 and 1999, the percentage of families with computer access did not change considerably. It dropped by 1% for deprived families, and increased only by 2% for wealthy ones.
In conclusion, more families in Australia were able to use computer and internet from 1998 to 2000, no matter what the economic condition they were in. And it appeared that the growth of internet use outweighed that of the computer.
